Flying under the radar is one of the most important ranking factors. This has led to many SEO professionals overlooking it in their optimization checklists. It leaves a huge opportunity for those who know about it. Readability is what I am referring to.

Google has made it clear that readability is an important consideration for webmasters. Matt Cutts, Google’s former head for web spam, stated publicly that badly written and mispelled content would rank poorly. Clarity should be your main focus. This is not about spelling mistakes. It’s about making sure your content is easy to read for everyone, using simple language and sentence structure.

The Searchmetrics Google ranking factors report has shown that Flesch readability is a strong correlation between high-ranking sites and easy-to-read content. According to the Searchmetrics ranking report, sites that ranked in the top 10 had an average Flesch reading score (76.00) – content that is easy to understand for students aged 13-15 years old and above.

Google is conscious of the importance of readability. Google maximizes its advertising revenue by encouraging search results to be readable for a broad audience. Google would lose its appeal and market share if it encouraged complex results that were only accessible to a small audience, such as post-graduates.

By making your content easily accessible to a broad audience, you can increase your on-page SEO. Flesch will run your content through the readability test. The test will evaluate your sentence and word usage and score how readable it appears to be. Scores between 90 and 100 are easy to understand by an 11-year-old student. Scores between 60-70 and 60-70 can be understood by 13- to 15-year-old students. University graduates have the best understanding scores. The free tool is available below. You should aim to achieve a readability score of 60-100. Edit your content to reduce the number of words per sentence and use words that have fewer syllables to improve your score.

Content marketing can help you increase traffic and rank.

One of the best on-page SEO strategies you can use is to add more original, fresh content. You will get more traffic if you add new pages to the site every day. You can increase traffic by publishing more content.

This is a simple fact that you can see. Blogs, news and publishing sites get excellent results in search engines. More content equals more traffic, higher rankings and more sales. Let’s take a look at how to improve your traffic through fresh content.

1. Regularly post new content.

You need to set a time and stick with it if you want to add content to your website. Although this may seem obvious, you’d be surprised at how many businesses talk about creating a blog but never do. Businesses that have a consistent schedule of adding content to their website see increases in search rankings and overall search engine performance. They also enjoy a loyal following. It will not happen without a schedule or dedicated roster.

A ghostwriter is a freelance writer who can create content for you if you don’t have the time or budget to hire a fulltime marketing assistant.

You can find high quality writers for as low as $25-$75 USD per piece and can continue to create new content until your heart’s content. You can connect with talented writers through popular services like Textbroker and the Problogger job board.

2. Leverage your social media accounts.

Social media should be used to drive traffic to your new pages or posts.

Post new content to all your social media accounts whenever you publish it. You can then post the content again within a few days to expose it to another segment of your fans. This will increase your social activity, which will result in higher rankings.

3. Contact bloggers who are writing roundup posts about your topic.

Bloggers frequently write roundup posts that list their top must-read articles or blogs on a specific topic. Send a personal message to authors and link to your most popular blog posts. You can make it easier for authors to update their posts by providing a brief blog description, an image and a link to your social media channels. Start by creating a basic level of high-quality content. Then, reach out to other bloggers. If you make enough outreach efforts, you can see links to your blog within a week.

Here are a few search queries that will help you find roundup posts relevant to your topic.

HTTPS & SSL upgrade checklist.

It’s not hard to see why Google, Apple, and other tech companies encourage everyone to be safer in an age of hacking scandals, government surveillance programs, and celebrities sending nude selfies. Google’s support for website encryption is a part of this trend. Google confirmed SSL security certificates to be a ranking signal on August 26, 2014.

Google has publicly acknowledged that site encryption is a positive ranking element in its algorithm and declared its intention to strengthen it. It’s a smart idea to get an SSL security certificate for your website.

Google Chrome began showing security warnings to users who visit sites that are not SSL-enabled in October 2017. Chrome displays a security notice in the address bar. It states that the website is “Not secure”. This warning focuses on non-SSL websites containing web forms and users who visit non-SSL websites in Incognito mode.

You may be wondering what I’m talking about. If you log into your Gmail or Internet banking account, you will see website encryption in action. If you see the green padlock at top of the URL and it has HTTPS at its front, that means that the connection is secure and the site owner has installed security certificates and verified ownership.

Website encryption acts as a tunnel between the user’s computer and the website server. It’s encrypted so if anyone tries to intercept this connection, any information will appear gibberish. Only the web server or the user can see the information. Pretty neat, huh?

To get an additional boost in your rankings, it is not enough to install a security certificate. To ensure that Google correctly picks up all information, there is a migration process.

Below are the steps to upgrade your website without affecting rankings or SEO juice. This process is more technical than just incorporating a few keywords on the page. You should review the Google supporting documentation, ask your developer, and consider professional SEO assistance before you complete this process.

1. To obtain a security certificate, contact your domain registration provider or web host. Common fees vary depending on the type and price of the certificate. They can be anywhere from $50 to $500 annually.

2. You must ensure that both HTTPS versions and HTTP versions continue to work.

3. To use relative URLs, upgrade all internal resources and links in your HTML code. This applies to HTML files, CSS, Javascript, images, and any other files that are referenced in your HTML codes. Instead of using an absolute address to refer to internal resources on the website code (e.g., it should use a relative address (e.g. It should use a relative address (e.g.

4. All of your canonical tags should be updated to point to the HTTPS version.

5. Upload 301 redirects to all HTTP URLs to point at the new HTTPS secure URLs.

6. 6.Verify the HTTPS version of your website in a new profile on Google Search Console.

7. Upload an XML sitemap for the new HTTPS Google Search Console profile. The sitemap must include both the old HTTP pages and the new HTTPS ones. To encourage Google to crawl and register redirects, we are submitting the pages.

8. All links to your social media accounts, and marketing materials, should be updated to point to the new URLs.

The free checklist on SEO covers the steps to upgrade your SSL.

User Behavior Optimization – How to use Google’s machine-learning technology to your advantage

Have you heard of Project Pigeon? It was a top-secret U.S. military project that developed missiles by tapping on transparent screens using pigeons.

In the 1940s, Harvard behavioral psychologist B. F. Skinner developed Project Pigeon. Skinner later decided to decommission it because “no one would ever take us seriously.” Skinner’s work on behavioral analysis, which was later recognized as the foundation of behavioral psychology, was also taken seriously.

Google has been focusing on how we interact online, tapping on screens, as a key focus. Google uses user behavior signals such as bounce rate and time-on-site to rank highly in its top 10 ranking factors. Google’s machine-learning algorithm RankBrain monitors user behavior and recalculates search results in real time. You can make use of this information to your advantage and achieve higher rankings by optimizing user behavior.

Improved user behavior is not a ‘nice to-have ‘…. It is a requirement for all SEO practitioners and a powerful technique for anyone wanting to rank among the top-10 results.

For actionable strategies to leverage Google’s machine-learning algorithm to propel your pages to the top faster than a pigeon guided missile, read on.

Increase click-through rates

Your click-through rate (CTR) refers to the percentage of people who click on your search result and see it. Google will know if your page is attractive to users if more people click on it than the others. Get higher-click-through-rates with these 7 techniques.

1. On your target pages, fill out the meta title and description tags. Google will generate snippets automatically if you don’t fill in your meta tags. These snippets generally have low CTRs. An SEO technician silently weeps for every page of your website with unfilled meta tag.

2. Make meta tags stand out. Make meta tags actionable, specific, and descriptive. Make it easy for users to click on your result over other pages.

3. To stand out, use special characters and numbers. Higher click through rates are naturally attracted to specific numbers. Special characters like pipes, emdashes, and brackets can make your rankings stand out, increasing clicks.

4. Include keywords in URLs. Keywords in URLs indicate that your page is relevant quickly, resulting in automatic clicks.

5. Short URLs are a good idea. Google and users both like short URLs. This is the end of the case.

6. Target rich snippets or featured snippets. Rich results can get up to 30% more clicks. These types of rankings are described in the rich snippets chapter.

7. Low performing pages can be improved. Check your Google Search Console keyword reports for keywords with low CTRs. Make these pages more click-worthy by improving their URLs and meta tags.

What do you think is the best example of a search result that ranks higher in search results and gets click-through rates?
